Installing Solar Power for business

In September we completed the installation of a large Solar array for Ten87 Studios in Tottenham, London. This world-class recording studio is home to over 150 recording artists, and acts as a creative hub for the local music-making community.

Cutting costs and reducing carbon

The daytime electricity use is high at Ten87 Studios, with recording gear, sound engineering consoles, audio decks, musical instruments, microphones and more all running almost constantly. Switching to Solar would counter the uncertainty of rising energy prices while helping to control day-to-day running costs.

As Ten87 is actively involved with the local community, we were able to help the business apply to the Haringey Community Carbon Fund to cover the costs of installing Solar.

A renewable energy source would bring down the studio’s energy bills while also reducing carbon emissions in the area. This supported the local council’s Climate Change Action Plan.

End-to-end support for installing Solar PV

The InstaGroup Solar team was able to offer a full solution for the entire project, from support with the initial funding application through to commissioning the completed system.

The complex build required agreements from many stakeholders before we could progress. We were able to adapt the system design to meet additional local council planning regulations, work efficiently alongside neighbouring businesses and also overcome issues with access at the site.

Saving 5 tonnes of carbon every year

The Solar installation for Ten87 Studios took place between August and September 2023, with the entire project taking five months from our first conversation to completion.

The extensive system incorporates 53 x 425W panels and inverter. The rooftop Solar PV panels will generate around 22,799 kWh per year — saving nearly 5 tonnes in carbon emissions annually*.

Looking to the future, Ten87 is hoping to invest in an energy storage battery to increase savings further still.

Supporting the move to carbon-neutrality

The Solar Panel installation is helping the Studios take a step towards its aim of becoming carbon-neutral.

Rob Burns, the Founder of Ten87 Studios said, “Installation of the Solar PV system was made possible through a generous grant from Haringey Council’s Carbon Community Fund. We’d like to thank the InstaGroup team for all their dedicated work in helping us to get this Solar project off the ground. They supported us through the process from day one, and their professional service and experience meant we could successfully overcome a number of hurdles.”

Rob adds, “The savings we generate from Solar Power will be re-invested into the thriving Ten87 music community and the wider Haringey area. This includes offering free studio time through partnerships with local youth and arts organisations.”

Solar Power benefits business and the wider community

InstaGroup managed the Solar project for Ten87 Studios from start to finish, including technical design and build.

The new Solar array won’t just reduce electricity bills for the Studios: it will also benefit many of the smaller businesses that sub-let workspace across the site.

Far beyond saving money, the clean, renewable source of energy is cutting carbon emissions in the local community and is a positive way to tackle climate change.

Reducing the carbon footprint of business

It’s been rewarding to see this Solar install result in wider benefits for the community, while lowering business dependence on fossil fuels.

Paul Griffiths, Head of Solar at InstaGroup says “We’re really proud to have been involved in this Solar project, as the impact it’s making will go far beyond one business.”

“It’s good to know we’re helping this part of London to reduce its carbon footprint and we’d be very keen to work with more businesses in the area.”
