Fnd out about installing External Wall Insulation

Improve your home inside and out with External Wall insulation

External Wall insulation (also called Solid Wall insulation) can save around 35% of heat1  from being lost through uninsulated walls, bringing down energy bills while warming up your home. External Wall insulation stops heat from escaping through ‘solid’ brick walls, which aren’t good at keeping in the warmth. You can usually tell a property was built with solid walls by looking at its outside brickwork pattern. Another guide is the date it was built: if it’s pre-1920s it’s probably of solid wall construction. You can find out more at a no-obligation home assessment.

The smart new finish on the external walls also transforms the property – it looks fresh and new on the outside, as well as feeling warmer on the inside. Following your survey, we’ll give you a clear, fixed quote for the recommended work, along with an estimated timescale for the installation. The cost of installing External Wall insulation will vary for each property, depending on its size and type, but you’ll benefit from big savings on your energy bills year after year. We may offer a discount when we install other energy efficiency improvements (such as replacement double-glazed doors or windows) alongside External Wall insulation.

InstaClad Robust provides a durable and tailored solution backed by professional consultancy, technical expertise, a product warranty from InstaGroup along with a 25 year guarantee issued by SWIGA.

What happens at a external wall installation?

  • Booking a date
If you decide to go ahead following your survey, we’ll book a date for the installation and schedule the work, which will take place outside the property. The team will put up scaffolding to work safely, and will need clear access all around the property. They will carefully remove any external wall features such as lights, satellite dishes etc.
  • How is it done?
Once the walls are prepared, insulation panels are fixed to the brickwork. These are then sealed and weather-proofed and finished with your choice of render colour or finish. Installation can take 1–2 weeks, but time scales will vary depending on the size of the property, ease of access and features such as number of windows, doors and drainpipes.
  • What is the end result?
We follow the highest standards of workmanship. Our technicians are professionally accredited and the products and systems we use are BBA-approved. Our External Wall insulation system is a ‘fit and forget’ solution which requires very little future maintenance.

How does External Wall insulation work?

Typical home insulation means filling the brick wall cavities with insulation to help keep in the heat. However, if a property is built with solid walls, or has cavity walls that cannot be insulated, an internal or external wall insulation system can be installed to stop heat loss.

InstaGroups External Wall insulation, InstaClad, has been awarded innovation status in recognition of its high performance. InstaClad External Wall insulation is fixed to the outside of the house, which not only keeps the inside room temperature warmer, but also the inner part of the wall. This effectively acts as a heat store, helping to maintain a constant temperature inside the house and avoiding fluctuations between hot and cold.

Once a home is externally insulated, there are many advantages, including:

  • A significant reduction in heat loss, lowering energy use and heating bills.
  • A decrease in issues such as condensation, damp and mould, which can cause respiratory and other health
    problems.
  • The system protects the outside of the property from weather damage, reducing maintenance.
  • The external render improves and refreshes the outside look of the home.
  • If the system needs any maintenance or repair work, it can be carried out externally, causing minimal disruption to home life
with no need to move out.

Funding for home insulation

We can tell you about funding for External Wall insulation that may be available* for certain households. Find out more about the government-backed Great British Insulation Scheme or get in touch with us to ask if you could qualify for funding.

Funded insulation is subject to a home energy assessment and the householder meeting the scheme criteria.
